Where in former times sugar bees were processed in a sugar factory, the solar specialist F&S solar has build a photovoltaic power station with about 12,000 solar modules.
Jarmen/Germany – On the surface of a former sugar factory in Jarmen a solar power station is being built: The small city in Mecklenburg-West Pomerania (Eastern Germany) continues to produce something precious with the support of the sun – nowadays sunlight is making the economic yield - with about 12,000 photovoltaic modules - instead of sugar bees.
Jarmen lies in the South of Stralsund and has got very good irradiation, says Manuel Dormagen, project manager of the German solar specialist F&S solar. “On the surface of the six hectare big area there is a biotope, around which we are building the solar park; furthermore we have a small lake here which in former times served as source for the processing water for the sugar factory – called sugar lake”. Close to the future solar park there is a small river, the Peene which is also a habitat for beavers.
“With the solar power station this region is being upgraded ecologically” says Dormagen. After completion of the solar park the area will be fenced, which means the biotope as well as the lake are left to nature. The fence will be designed in a way that small animals will still be able to slip below it.
With the ecological power of this 3,000-Kilowatt-Peak solar park about 700 households can be supplied, and 2,850,000 Kilowatt hours of yearly current production are predicted. Thus 3,286 tons of the climate-killer carbon dioxide can be saved year by year in comparison to conventional current.
The project manager expects no special problems to occur:”Like on all conversion areas, we have no naturally formed soil here. The soil was filled up. Because of static reasons we have to invest more into the sub-construction.” Through a good planning, profound experience and the circumstance that the feed-in point is very close, the park can be realized very lucratively.
“We have started to drill the mounting piles and will finish the solar park by the end of December” says Manuel Dormagen. F&S solar is already well-known in Mecklenburg-West Pomerania: With its solar parks in Anklam and Gützkow they have already successfully planned and built two solar parks in direct vicinity.

Better Energy Invest A/S (“Better Energy”), a Danish renewable energy asset manager focusing on renewable infrastructure, announces the completion of the acquisition of an 8 MWp. Solar Park built by German solar projects developer F&S Solar Concept GmbH.
The solar park in the town of Anklam consists of over 32,300 photovoltaic (PV) polycrystalline modules from Phono Solar and 7 Central Inverters from SMA. The power plant will generate around 8 million kWh of electricity annually, saving 6 thousand tonnes of CO2, and is expected to operate for more than 25 years.
The acquisition has a total investment value of more than EUR 8 million and takes Better Energy’s total portfolio of renewable energy assets to more than 33 MW of assets under management.
Sparkasse Holstein has provided long-term financing for the project.
Better Energy was advised by Sagawe & Klages, Hamburg on legal matters and by Krug & Schram on all technical aspects of the transaction.

„F&S solar“ takes over fallow building site of an insolvent developer and proves that one can still build economic solar installations in Germany despite of reduced feed-in tariff
Twist/Euskirchen – Ernst Schmitz, mayor of the municipality of Twist, administrative district of Emsland, expressed himself at the New Year reception still really disappointed of the solar park project in his municipality. The present investor did not keep his commitments. The executing company announced insolvency and what was meant as a flagship project in terms of renewable energies, threatened to become a disaster. For months, the building site lay fallow, merely part of the sub-construction had been built. During this time not only lease income got lost - also the guaranteed reimbursement decreased from month to month. In vain, everyone tried to find a solution.
Then the construction site struck to one of the site managers of the Euskirchen solar specialist „F&S solar“ and he announced to the company headquarters: „Nothing has happened for months on this building site – something’s wrong here.“ As a result, Jörg Frühauf, CEO of „F&S solar“ contacted the local government: „Through the changed renewable energy law it becomes more and more difficult to build big solar farms, and there are only few big "players" left in Germany. However, we could present a concept which convinced the community.“
The project developer from Euskirchen took over the works and after all official formalities were done the solar farm with almost 6.000 kilowatt peak was finished within only three weeks. Not only the case history of the park was difficult, like Manuel Dormagen, project engineer with „F&S solar“, reported: „The park is a prime example for how important experience and competent planning are for the construction of big solar farms. The sub-construction had been partially built by the insolvent company within a strongly shaded area and had even been built beyond the construction window.“
Therefore, „F&S solar“ chose the radical cure and built back about ten percent of the existing construction. Despite the quick construction time, the park got connected to the grid one year later than in the original planning. „The cooperation with the local government was very good, fortunately, after the disappointment with the insolvent company the responsible persons quickly gave confidence to us, so that everything could be realized promptly“, according to Dormagen.“
The solar power station, consisting of 23,460 solar modules on 10.8 hectares of surface, could be established by “F&S solar” economically sensible, according to Manuel Dormagen: „Even for the trunk year we could pay the lease and the subcontracting companies of the insolvent company, so that a happy end was found for all.“ The project also has a good effect on the environment: By means of the green current, about 3.690 tonnes of the climate killer carbon dioxide are saved each year compared to conventional electricity generated from coal. Mathematicaly, 1.400 family households can be supplied with the solar current.
The project developer from Euskirchen has placed about 200 kilometres of cable within this park, plus 2.8 kilometres of cable which connects the park to the substation and thus to the public grid. In spite of the strongly reduced feed-in tariff, it is still possible to build solar parks economically, also in Germany, if the works are based on efficiency in construction and planning, says Dormagen. Meanwhile, the solar farm Twist has been resold to a Cologne investor. epa
