Kalenberg Sun Park
Energy supplier involves citizens and municipalities
Including a good 16,000 modules, Sun Park Kalenberg has been connected to the grid since October 2011. It is the first project to be implemented by 'KEVER', which operates renewable projects with participation opportunities for municipalities, citizens and investors.
The opening was celebrated with great interest from the general public and among politicians. The newly established company 'KEVER' (Kreisenergieversorgung Euskirchen Regenerative) aims to specialise in renewable energies and the use of resources in the region. Current plans envisage supplying the Eifel region entirely with green power by the year 2030. At present, the figure is already 25–30%. However, this target cannot be achieved by the energy supplier on its own, but will require the support of several strong partners.
Energie Nordeifel, the local energy provider, possesses the necessary infrastructure and expertise. The town of Mechernich became involved in the site procurement process and in securing the necessary development planning, while F&S solar concept acted as experienced and professional project developer.
The joint objective is to create added value in the region for the region and to treat nature in the Eifel region with respect. Mayor of Mechernich, Dr Hans Peter Schick, was delighted to see his municipality take another major step towards the transition to new forms of energy with the Sun Park Kalenberg.
